Former standout BGSU hockey forward Austen Swankler announced his commitment to Michigan Tech on Monday afternoon, a week after it was revealed he had entered the transfer portal.
Three days ago, Swankler revealed on X, formerly known as Twitter, that he entered the portal due to hazing incidents at BG, where he was the victim.
BG hockey head coach Ty Eigner is currently on administrative leave and three unnamed players have been suspended due to an alleged off-campus hazing incident, which the Bowling Green Police Department is currently investigating.
Last season, Swankler led the Falcons with 19 goals, 25 assists and 44 points. He paced the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) in assists and points, earning first-team All-CCHA honors and being named a Hobey Baker Memorial Award nominee.
The Falcons will play at Michigan Tech, who will open the season nationally ranked, on Dec. 1 and 2. Later on, BG will host Swankler and the Huskies at Slater Family Ice Arena on Feb. 23 and 24.
