BGSU cancels classes ahead of total solar eclipse

In April of 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross North America, passing over Mexico, United States, and Canada.

In April of 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross North America, passing over Mexico, United States, and Canada.

The spring semester is soon approaching and BGSU students may notice a change to the academic calendar in April. BGSU officials are giving students a day of no classes to experience a total solar eclipse April 8.

Bowling Green will be directly on path to experience the eclipse, as the path of totality is drawn directly through the state of Ohio, and the 124-mile-wide path stretches from Toledo down to Columbus. NASA has been closely following the eclipse.

After the eclipse on April 8, 2024, the next total solar eclipse that will be viewable in the United States will be in 2044, according to NASA officials.

BGSU officials have added the eclipse to the Spring 2024 academic calendar, giving students the day off.

Previous Work

Pierce has reported for BG Falcon Media and specifically written articles for the weekly BG News. Pierce's favorite article reported for BG Falcon Media was on the increase of Electric Vehicles in the Bowling Green community. The article can be found here. He also completed a promotions internship with BG Falcon Radio, organizing events and campaigns to spread awareness of the organization on campus. Pierce currently works with WTVG-TV, beginning in the Summer of 2023 as a Digital Content Producer. Some of his work with the organization can be found here.
