A full-dome video double feature program about early stargazers and their quest to understand the skies above will be in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 112, every Saturday at 11 a.m. and every Sunday at 7:30 p.m. until Nov. 19.
The first feature is Stargazers to Africa, which is a journey connecting the stars, moon and planets to the people across the continent, from long ago to the stargazers of today. The feature reflects on the common African practice of looking to the skies for inspiration and guidance.
The second feature is The First Stargazers, which shows how they experienced the sky. Attendees can watch the first stargazer create a Moon calendar 30,000 years ago and discover how ancient peoples tried to understand the sky and how modern astronomy grew from their work.
A dollar donation is suggested for the shows.
