Bowling Green men’s basketball junior guard Marcus Hill was named to the Lou Henson Award midseason watch list on Wednesday afternoon.
The nod is Hill’s first national recognition this season. He was named Mid-American Conference (MAC) Player of the Week on Nov. 27.
The Lou Henson Award has been given annually by collegeinsider.com to the country’s most outstanding mid-major men’s basketball player. The award was established in 2010 and honors legendary Illinois head coach Lou Henson.
Hill is averaging 20.1 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game this season. He leads Bowling Green and ranks second in the MAC in points per game.
The Rockford, Illinois, native has scored double-digit points in 13 of 15 games this season. He has tallied six 20-point and two 30-point performances in his first season with the Falcons.
Hill transferred to BG after playing last season at Southern Union State Community College, where he led the National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association in points scored.
There are 40 players on the watch list, including fellow MAC players Tyson Acuff of Eastern Michigan and Enrique Freeman of Akron.
The winner of the award will be announced in Phoenix, Arizona, the site of the men’s NCAA Division I basketball championship.
