Monday afternoon, Bowling Green State University’s director of athletics, Derek van der Merwe announced that BGSU swim and dive head coach Rickey Perkins’ contract is being terminated.
“We are extremely appreciative of Coach Rickey Perkins‘ contributions and commitment to Women’s Swim & Dive at Bowling Green State University over the last six years. He has positively impacted the lives of student-athletes, not only in competition but also influencing their lives beyond the pool. We are grateful for Rickey’s service to Bowling Green State University Swim & Dive.”
Then-BGSU director of athletics Bob Moosbrugger announced the hiring of Perkins on Aug. 9, 2018. Perkins previously served as the men’s and women’s swimming and diving head coach at the University of Evansville since 2002.
In his six years, Perkins’ teams ended their respective seasons above .500 record-wise in three of them. However in 2023-24, the Falcons placed eighth at the Mid-American Conference Championships, and overall, the team finished 1-5.
BGSU Athletics says they will immediately be launching a national search to find Perkins’ replacement.
