Bowling Green baseball (27-18, 29-6 MAC) was unable to take game one of a three-game series against the Eastern Michigan Eagles (14-32, 9-16 MAC) on Friday, falling 10-9.
The Orange and Brown are on a three-game losing streak in the Mid-American Conference (MAC), dropping games on May 4th and 5th to Western Michigan. Despite the cold streak, BG controls their destiny to win the MAC if they can win their remaining two games against Eastern.
Bowling Green’s offense started the day with a bang, scoring four early runs sparked by a single from senior infielder Landon Roque. This forced a wild throw and gave the Falcons a run.
Roque would continue a massive day, joining senior right fielder Jack Krause as the only two Falcons to hit a home run, both leadoff and the only Falcons to have multiple hits, runs and runs batted in (RBIs).
BGSU would bring a lead into the ninth inning, up on the Eagles 9-7, before switching to senior right-handed pitcher Jacob Turner late in the same inning. Turner was placed in a tough situation as he had bases loaded with 0 outs and a score of 9-8.
With a 2-1 count at the bottom of the order for Turner disaster struck as sophomore utility player Drew Jones smacked a double up against the center field wall that was not caught and bought his team enough time to seal the game.
The Orange and Brown will look to right the ship in the same place on Saturday, May 11th, with the first pitch falling at 1 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
