The state began approving its first recreational marijuana licenses and a Bowling Green dispensary is among those receiving a “dual use” (medical and recreational) permit.
According to a searchable state database, the ZenLeaf dispensary at 1155 North Main Street obtained a provisional license as a dual use dispensary. The business is listed as Glass City Alternatives, LLC in the database.
Applications for recreational licenses opened early last month, but even after receiving approval, dispensaries face additional steps before they can begin selling recreational cannabis products, including obtaining a separate state certificate of operation. Additional requirements include enhanced security, providing documentation they can continue to supply medical patients once recreational sales begin, and implementing a sales system that can clearly distinguish between medical and recreational sales.
“It’s important to keep in mind that a dual-use provisional license does not permit the holder to sell non-medical cannabis; it is issued as a placeholder while the provisional licensee works to meet the necessary requirements to obtain a Certificate of Operation and the Division processes all required documents,” a Department of Commerce spokesperson told Marijuana Moment last month. “Following successful completion of that process, Certificates of Operation will be issued based on roughly the order in which completed applications were received.”
According to Axios Columbus, the state will hold a lottery to determine where the state’s initial standalone recreational marijuana dispensaries will be located. The state’s deadline for issuing all licenses is Sept. 7.
