Ohio’s annual sales tax holiday is underway, ending at midnight, Thursday, August 8.
According to Cincinnati.com, here are some things that are not included in the holiday: Cigarettes, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, vaping products, and items containing marijuana, as well as watercraft and motor vehicles. The holiday also does not cover taxable services like clothing alterations, car repairs, or similar services.
Meanwhile, WCPO identified these items as potentially “wacky” since they don’t relate to back-to-school (which is ostensibly what spawned the August tax holiday idea):
- Laptops costing less than $500
- HDTVs under $500
- iPads and tablets
- XBoxes (and Playstations)
- Eyeglasses and contact lenses
- Tires for your car
- Barbecue grills
- Bicycles
- Dine-in restaurant meals
To clarify #9 on that list, delivered meals are typically not taxed.
