BGSU continues to break enrollment records for the second year in a row, welcoming its biggest and most academically high achieving class.
Following the record breaking freshman class of 2027, the newest cohort of students is the largest freshman cohort with almost 3,900 students coming from across the US in over 30 states. The class of 2028 also stands at the highest achieving class through their academic stats.
Data from BGSU says that the new cohort has an accumulative GPA of 3.67 and an average ACT score of 25, surpassing last year’s high completely.
This upward trend is something that President Rodney Rogers is excited about, saying that Bowling Green has the resources to continue to break records.
“We are excited to welcome so many new students to our learning community, defying national and even statewide enrollment trends,” Rogers said.
“Bowling Green is big enough to provide all the opportunities of a comprehensive, research university but small enough to (where each of our students) can actually take advantage of it.”
The class of 2028 is not the only way BGSU has broken enrollment records this year.
Beyond this cohort, BGSU has also increased their admission among first-year international students with numbers doubling from data in 2023.
“Bowling Green has leaned in on the student experience, intentionally empowering our students to take advantage of all we have to offer from day one,” President Rogers explained,
“This kind of momentum takes all of us being all in, and we are grateful for our students, families, faculty, staff, alumni, donors and supporters who continue to support our learning community.”
While BGSU continues to thrive with increasing enrollment with a 22% increase since 2022, other schools in the state of Ohio haven’t had the same streak.
According to enrollment data on the following university’s websites, Miami University and UToledo have seen decreases in student enrollment. This has lead to the elimination of various majors from both universities.
Cecilia Castellano, BGSU’s vice president for enrollment management says that the university continues to thrive because of its investment to students.
“The University’s continued investment in high-demand programs is driving enrollment, empowering students for career success and addressing critical workforce needs. We are thankful for the continued trust in the value of a BGSU education from students and their families.” Castellanos said.
