Saturday’s women’s soccer match was not just an ordinary game but a day of honor and recognition for five exceptional seniors.
The senior day ceremonies, an important moment before the game, paid tribute to their dedication and contribution.
The five seniors—Midfielder Jayden Bayes, midfielder Jaden Frigerio, defender Isabelle Gilmore, defender/midfielder Taylor Kenna and goalkeeper Madison Vukas—were the stars of the day. Their celebration was followed by a thrilling victory for Bowling Green over archrival Toledo, 2-1.
Gilmore, the team’s captain, has been essential to the BGSU women’s soccer team for the last four years.
“I mean, there’s not enough words that can be said about what she [Isabelle Gilmore] means to this program. Arguably one of the best players I’ve ever coached,” head coach Chris Fox said. “I think she is somebody that she does a lot of things that people just expect of her at this point, which are not easy things to do. Maybe doesn’t get the praise that she deserves, but absolutely wonderful human being and couldn’t think of a better captain than Isabelle Gilmore.”
Vukas was a force to be reckoned with in the victory over the Rockets.
She made four crucial saves, with Toledo managing five shots on goal. Since transferring from the University of Pittsburgh after her first year, she has been a reliable and essential goalkeeper for the Falcons.
The next senior to be recognized was Frigerio, a dynamic player for the Falcons.
“Jaden Frigerio, kind of like the heartbeat from a social standpoint for our team,” Fox said. “I think everyone knows her; she’s at everything.”
Although Kenna and Bayes did not play in today’s game, their influence on the team has been substantial.
“Jayden Bayes is an incredible, lovely human being. Gives everything for her team, and the same can be said about Taylor Kenna, who always has a smile on her face,” Fox said.
Next, BGSU will stay home to battle the Ohio Bobcats on Thursday, Sept. 26. Kick-off at Cochrane Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
