The Bowling Green State University police department has launched a survey tool that gives individuals the chance to give feedback based on their experiences with BGSU police.
With this new software, a call with the police department may result in a text message with a survey rating the dispatchers or officers. Not every individual making a call will receive a survey.
“With certain types of calls, individuals receive a text message after the call to provide any feedback based on their interaction with the police department. Whether that be interactions with a dispatcher or call taker, or the officer themselves to rate their service.” said Police Chief Micheal Campbell.
Campbell hopes that the tool will result in better engagement between the community and the police department.
“It’s something we have been looking at as far as trying to find various avenues to better engage the community.” Campbell said.
The surveys are intended to help the department get a better understanding of ways that they can improve and better serve the community.
“My hope is that individuals do get that communication and hopefully they can take just a couple minutes to provide us some feedback. Whether that’s a positive interaction with the officer or the dispatcher, or maybe areas that we need to improve in. I think both of those are valuable communications and things our department can definitely use and learn from.” Campbell explained.
The department wants to see how this tool can pave the way for more communications with the community in the future.
“There is the potential that we’ll expand some of the communication with this software, but this is kind of our first step in this.” said Campbell.
