BGSU baseball and head coach Kyle Hallock announced the signing of eight players on National Signing Day.
“First of all, I would like to thank associate head coach Matt Rembielak, recruiting coordinator Joey Gamache and assistant coach Joey Cooper for their teamwork in putting together another great recruiting class,” Hallock said.
All eight players rank in the top 50 overall players in their respective states/provinces. The class includes two outfielders, two middle infielders, two left-handed pitchers, one right-handed pitcher and a catcher.
“Each member of this class fits the personality of BGSU Baseball in their own, specific way. We expect this group of young men to make an impact on our program from our very first workout next fall. As gifted as they are on the diamond, they are equally as hungry to continue the championship tradition of Falcon Baseball,” Hallock said. “Each of these student-athletes are players we feel that we can win with during their time at BGSU. We look forward to welcoming, developing, and ultimately turning this group loose on college baseball for the back half of this decade.”
Anthony Bonnetti (Outfielder)
According to Prep Baseball Report, Bonnetti comes to Bowling Green as the second-ranked outfielder in Michigan. He earned First Team All-State honors last season and helped lead the Richmond Blue Devils to a top-eight finish in the state.
The 6-foot-3-inch outfielder has a lineage in the Mid-American Conference (MAC), as his father, Jason, played baseball at Central Michigan.
“Anthony is a multi-sport athlete that has the physical gifts to make an impact on our program. He has a strong frame and can really run for his size,” Hallock said. “As one of the top outfielders in our area, he’s arriving to BGSU highly accomplished with the production to match his potential.”
Joey Buchanan (Left-handed pitcher)
According to PBR, Buchanan joins BGSU as the seventh-ranked left-handed pitcher in Ohio.
The 6-foot-1-inch pitcher has earned First Team All-Conference honors at Milford High School the past two seasons.
“Joey is one of the top left-handed pitchers in the state of Ohio for this class. His clean delivery, big-time breaking ball and quick arm are what separates him from others,” Hallock said. “He will be coming to BGSU with competitiveness and big-game experience. He will continue to develop in our program.”
Anthony DiLodovio (Catcher)
DiLodovio joins the Falcons as the top-ranked catcher in the state of Michigan, according to PBR.
He hit .475 with 12 doubles and a 1.311 on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS) at Grosse Point South High School last season, earning Second Team All-State honors.
“Andrew has great feel for the game from the catching position,” Hallock said. “He is a complete player. From the first time we saw him, we knew he could catch, and the development of his offense for Grosse Pointe South allowed him to become one of the best catchers in the state of Michigan.”
John Hughes (Outfielder)
Hughes is the only international signing for the Falcons and comes to BGSU as the seventh-ranked outfielder in Ontario, Canada, according to PBR.
The 5-foot-10-inch outfielder was a three-time High School Athlete of the Year winner at Applewood Heights Secondary School, a member of Team Canada in 2023 and part of the 2023 Canadian National Championship team.
“John is a ball player with physical tools and presence. He stands out right away at just about every baseball field he shows up to,” Hallock said. “He squares up balls and plays the game the right way all the time. John is one of the best players in his class coming out of the Ontario province of Canada.”
Jackson Miller (Left-handed pitcher)
According to PBR, Miller is the seventh-ranked left-handed pitcher in Michigan.
The 6-foot-4-inch pitcher earned All-Region Honors in 2022 and All-Conference honors in 2023 at Lakeland High School.
“Jack is a long-limbed, loose-armed left-handed pitcher whose fastball and breaking ball have jumped off the charts the past year. He possesses the pitch-ability and mental makeup to help us win at this level,” Hallock said. “He has been pitching and winning big games for a few years, and that experience will allow him to impact our staff.”
Josh Mommers (Infielder)
Mommers is the top-ranked second baseman in Ohio, according to PBR.
The Rocky River, Ohio, native will be a second-generation collegiate baseball player, following in the footsteps of his dad, Joe, who played at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C).
The 5-foot-11-inch middle infielder tallied a .300 batting average, a .495 on-base percentage (OBP), a .545 slugging percentage (SLG), five doubles, four triples, two home runs, 27 walks and 22 stolen bases last season, earning First Team All-Conference honors while leading Rocky River to a conference title.
“Josh is a well-rounded, complete baseball player. He is another multi-sport athlete that understands how to compete between the lines. He has good hands both offensively and defensively,” Hallock said. “In games, he produces as well as anyone at his position in Ohio, and that feature will be a great addition to our program.”
Griffin Scheiderer (Infielder)
Scheiderer was named a PBR All-State Honorable Mention and is the ninth-ranked shortstop in Ohio, according to PBR.
Over his four years at Marysville High School, the 5-foot-10-inch middle infielder hit .337 with a .430 OBP while tallying 80 hits and 23 extra-base hits.
“Griffin has been highly productive since he was referred to us his freshman year of high school. He’s a winning player that finds the barrel often and uses the opposite field very well with a mature approach,” Hallock said. “Defensively, he’s automatic with the glove and is one of the best on both sides of the ball at his position in the state.”
Joey Turner (Right-handed pitcher)
The 5-foot-10-inch pitcher will join his brother, Jacob Turner, on BGSU’s roster.
Joey Turner is the 13th-ranked right-handed pitcher in Michigan, according to PBR. He has been selected for the PBR Junior Future Games, 2023 USA Baseball Team Midwest and 2024 Team Michigan.
“Joey Turner is a physical, strong-armed righty with advanced pitch-ability. He features a great change up that he can use in any count,” Hallock said. “He performed very well on the national stage at the Team USA complex against the best in the country as one of the top RHPs from Michigan. We look forward to his impact on our team next fall.”
