BGSU men’s basketball and head coach Todd Simon announced the signing of two players on Thursday: Camden Karel and Makhi Leach.
Camden Karel
This morning, BGSU men’s basketball announced that the third-ranked player in the state of Michigan, Camden Karel, signed with the Orange and Brown. Karel stands at 6-feet-9-inches and attends Bryon Center in Michigan.
Karel, the top power forward prospect in Michigan, had offers from several Mid-American Conference (MAC) schools, including Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Kent State and Toledo, according to PrepHoops.
Karel previously announced his commitment to BGSU on July 4, earlier this year.
According to Next College Student Athlete (NCSA) College Recruiting, Karel describes some of his strengths as “Working in the paint, a great midrange, shooting the three-point, ambidextrous dribbling/shooting and cutting to the basket, pick and roll, rebounding and lights out defense.”
“Camden is a versatile player with size that fits our system of play. He has the ability to play inside and out, run the floor, make smart basketball plays and has a competitive nature that we like,“ Simon said. “His upside is very high because of his intangibles and work ethic. Additionally, he fits our culture. We are excited to have him part of our team next season.”
Makhi Leach
Bowling Green men’s basketball also announced the signing of Makhi Leach.
Leach, a two-time member of the Toledo Blade’s Top 25 players, is currently the sixth-ranked prospect in Ohio.
Standing at 6-feet-2-inches, Leach plays guard and is a three-star recruit, according to 24/7 Sports. Leach had offers from Ohio, Toledo and the College of Charleston.
Leach attends Toledo Whitmer, which he helped lead to a 25-3 record. This past year, Leach earned special mention All-Ohio honors while averaging 16.3 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.
Leach verbally committed to BGSU back in September.
“Makhi is a dynamic guard that plays on attack. His ability to score at all three levels makes him a tough player to defend. We think he will thrive in the open floor in our uptempo system and also put pressure on defenses in the half-court,“ Simon said. “He has been a part of winning for Whitmer High School and the Ohio Buckets. He’s been coached at a high level by Falcon legend Anthony Stacey. We love his culture fit as a driven young man with high character. We look forward to having Makhi a part of our Falcon family.”
