Mid-afternoon on Tuesday, Perfect Game USA released their Preseason All-American list, and named among the 57 total players was junior two-way player DJ Newman for Bowling Green.
Newman placed as a second-team All-American as a two-way player following a shortened 2024 season where he tallied a 3.61 ERA through 42.1 innings with 42 strikeouts and 10 walks in eight games on the mound.
Above home plate the junior was also a dominant batter in the 2024 campaign, putting up 45 runs off of 53 hits with 37 RBIs, six doubles, three triples, ten home runs and 22 walks, resulting in a .371 batting average.
Despite the strong statistics, Newman did not finish the 2024 season due to an injury, finishing his season on April 28. against Kent State, missing the remaining 16 games including the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Tournament.
A Freshman All-American in 2023, Newman is no stranger to awards as he was 2023’s MAC Freshman Pitcher of the Year, First Team All-MAC in 2023 as a designated hitter and Second Team All-MAC as a designated hitter in 2024.
Newman was not just the only Falcon to make Perfect Game USA’s list but the Archbold, Ohio native was the only MAC player to earn the honor of being named a Pre-Season All-American.
The Falcons will look to return to their winning ways following a monumental 2024 season that featured the Orange and Brown winning a MAC regular season championship following a 17-game winning streak to open conference play which was the best in school history.
Bowling Green make their return to the eyes of the fans on Feb. 14. in Murfreesboro, Tennessee against the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders in what will be a road series for the Falcons.
The first home game for BGSU will be on March 11. against the Tiffin Dragons in Bowling Green, Ohio, at Steller Field.
