Former BGSU hockey player Spencer Kersten has signed with the American Hockey League’s (AHL) Belleville Senators, the AHL affiliate of the NHL’s Ottawa Senators, on a professional tryout contract (PTO), the team announced on Sunday.
Kersten played in 36 games as a Falcon during the 2023-24 season, tallying 16 points, nine goals and seven assists. The Waterloo, Ontario, native also recorded 31 blocks, three power-play goals and three multi-point games at Bowling Green.
Before playing at Bowling Green, the 5-foot-10-inch, 187-pound forward played four seasons at Princeton University from 2019-2023. He totaled 38 points, 15 goals and 23 assists with the Tigers while captaining the 2022-23 team.
After finishing his collegiate career, Kersten signed with the Orlando Solar Bears of the East Coach Hockey League (ECHL), where he recorded 37 points, 16 goals and 21 assists in 48 games. He scored six playoff goals in the 2024 Kelly Cup playoffs, the second-most in a single playoff in Solar Bears history.
