This past week, most Bowling Green State University students received a text, but not from a human: instead, it was from Frieda Falcon. The text was part of the university’s new AI-powered texting service, “Text Frieda.”
According to BGSU, the new service will text all undergraduate students approximately once a week. These weekly messages will “check in” on students with questions to students ranging asking how their classes are to asking their opinion on campus issues, along with campus updates.
In addition, the university says students can save Frieda’s number – 866-724-8429 – and text it questions about the campus or university. The AI-powered service will use its resources to attempt to respond, but if it is unable to respond, a physical human can follow up.
For undergraduate students who do not receive the texts from Freida, the university says those students should update their contact information with their phone number on MyBGSU. If a student does not want to receive texts from Frieda, they can respond with the text “STOP.”
