Bowling Green baseball two-way star DJ Newman has been named the Mid-American Conference preseason player of the year by D1Baseball, the organization announced Wednesday.
Newman, a junior from Archbold, Ohio, adds another accolade to the trophy case, having been named to D1Baseball’s preseason First-Team All-America list, as well as preseason Second-Team All-American by Perfect Game USA.
In 2024, the right-hander posted a 4-2 win-loss record in eight starts, with an ERA of 3.61 and 42 punchouts in 42.1 innings pitched.
In the batter’s box, Newman slashed .371/.455/.664 with six doubles, three triples, 10 long balls and 37 runs batted in across 143 at-bats, earning Second-Team All-MAC honors at the designated hitter position.
Newman and the Falcons open their 2025 campaign in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, as they take on Middle Tennessee State in a three-game series beginning on Friday.
