The Falcons spent their Valentine’s Day weekend setting three school records in a strong performance at Grand Valley State University’s GVSU Big Meet in Allendale, Michigan.
After toppling BGSU’s school record in the mile, Reese Reaman decided that it was time for the 800-meter record to fall as well. The freshman ran a 2:08.36, beating a 37-year-old record by a thin margin of 0.01 seconds. This mark was good enough for a third-place finish in the event.
Her fellow distance runner, Junior Kylee Cubbison, wasn’t to be outdone. Cubbison claimed the mile record from her teammate, running a 4:42.53, about 4 seconds faster than Reaman’s previous mark.
Between the two runners, that now marks four program records set across three races in just the last two weeks.
Rachael Hoover joined Reaman in the 800-meter run, setting the program’s third-fastest time with a 2:09.61, good for ninth place.
Rachael Withrow and Regina Rose rounded out the distance running for the day by setting personal records in the 3000-meter run, with times of 9:54.64 and 10:10.04, respectively. Withrow’s time was also good enough to claim the ninth spot on Bowling Green’s all-time list for the event.
Two other Falcons added personal records for the day. Kiersten Franklin’s 7.52 seconds in the 60-meter gave her a third-place finish. In the 400-meter, Reagan Campbell finished with a time of 57.40.
In the jumping events, the Falcons found their sole first place in the competition. Sabrina Imes won the triple jump with a mark of 12.18 meters. Her teammate Bianca Staples was the runner-up, jumping just .02 meters less. Staples also competed in the high jump, notching a 1.64-meter mark.
Morgan Patterson rounded out the jumpers with a fourth-place finish in the long jump, reaching 5.70 meters.
Trista Fintel was the major story of the throwing events, winning the weight throw with her 19.65m mark and placing second in the shot put with a 15.22-meter throw. The weight throw performance marks BGSU’s fifth-best weight throw ever.
Grace Bradtmueller added a sixth-place finish in the weight throw with 17.03 meters, and Lane Anderson’s 13.37-meter shot put placed her eighth in the event.
On Saturday, the Falcons competed in the Distance Medley Relay, a favorite among Track and Field fanatics, and added another record to their remarkable season.
The relay consists of 4 different legs: a 1200-meter run by Reaman, a 400-meter run by Franklin, an 800-meter run by Hoover, and a 1600-meter run by Cubbison. The team’s overall time for the total 4000 meters was 11:21.85, breaking the previous standard of 11:25.56 set in 1999.
The Falcons will get back to action next Friday, Feb. 21, when they travel back to Ann Arbor for the University of Michigan’s Silverston Invitational.
