Over the past few days (Feb 16-18), the BGSU men’s golf team had been playing in Nevada at the Mesquite Desert Classic, placing ninth out of 12 participating teams.
Eastern Kentucky hosted the event at the Casablanca Resort and Casino. Utah Valley emerged victorious in the classic, achieving a team score of 21 under par.
BG struggled on the first day of the outing, posting a team score of 12 over par, which was the worst score by any team in round number one.
The next day, the Falcon shot 10 under par as a team, which was the fourth-best score by any team in the classic.
The Orange and Brown should have eaten the same breakfast the next morning because they played poorly again in their third round.
Leading the Falcons was senior Darin Hudak, who finished the classic tied in 12th with two other players and went even after three days of play.
The Falcons played the par threes well at the Mesquite Desert Classic, hitting only four over par on all of the par threes throughout the three rounds, behind only Western Kentucky, who were two under on the par threes.
Although BG did very well on the par threes, their scorecards suffered elsewhere. They led the classic in double bogies with 17 and were dead last in the par fives with only a total of five under.
In their next outing, the Falcons will travel to Southern Pines, North Carolina, for the Ross Collegiate Classic at Mid Pines Golf Club. That classic will be hosted on Monday, March 10, and Tuesday, March 11.
