RIO VERDE, ARIZONA— For the second time in February, the BGSU women’s golf team headed out west to Arizona to compete in the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational from Feb. 21 to 23. The Invitational was hosted by Mid-American Conference foe, Western Michigan, at the Rio Verde Country Club in Rio Verde, Arizona.
California Baptist won the Invitational with a score of even par after posting a team of five under, eight over, and three under throughout the weekend. The Orange and Brown came in at 14th out of 21 schools with a score of 52 over, after posting team rounds of 24 over, 23 over, and five over.
BG struggled through the first two rounds, with 54 bogeys, seven double bogeys, and three triple bogeys. During the third round, though, the Falcons were able to come out hot, shooting only five over as a team, which was tied with Xavier for the third-best score of the day—only preceded by Illinois State’s six under and California Baptist’s three under.
Leading the Falcons were junior Ava O’Sullivan and freshman Macie Elzinga with a tie for 43rd, with a score of 12 over for the weekend. The Falcons excelled at par threes with a score of 23 over, which was good enough to place them at fifth throughout the event. The main struggle for the Falcons was the par fives, finishing 19th in the tournament at a score of plus 25.
BGSU women’s golf is back at it on March 3 and 4 at the West Texas Classic hosted by Abilene Christian and the Abilene Country Club, in Abilene, Texas.
