On Friday, Feb. 21, BGSU’s Board of Trustees approved a variety of changes for the university, including an increase in room and board rates for incoming students, new degree programs, upgrades for the Fine Arts Center and Founders Hall and more.
According to the trustees meeting, incoming students for the 2025-2026 academic year will see an increase of about 2.65% in housing rates and a 3.5% increase for the Bronze Meal Plan. This change in room and board rates will not affect current students due to The Falcon Tuition Guarantee, which prevents fluctuations in current student’s rates.
The board also approved two new bachelor programs: Bachelor of Arts in World Cultures and Languages, which has students complete a set of core courses and then branch off into a language specialization, and Bachelor of General Studies, which allows students who have earned an associate’s degree or at least 60 college credit hours, to return to college and earn a bachelor’s degree aligned with their specific needs and career goals.
Trustees approved repairs to the roof of the Fine Arts Center, which will begin in the summer of 2025 and be complete in the fall of 2025. They also approved upgrades to Founders Hall, which will begin in the summer of 2025, and includes improvements to HVAC and an investigation of plumbing infrastructure.
Additionally, the College of Technology, Architecture and Applied Engineering was approved to be renamed the College of Engineering and Innovation.
