Bowling Green divers, sophomore Natalia Mayorga, graduate student Elise Snyder, and junior Evie Long competed for the Falcons in the NCAA Diving Regionals this week, wrapping up the year for BGSU Diving.
Ohio State hosted the Zone C Regional competition in the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion, which included divers from schools across the Great Lakes states and Kentucky. The other regions’ hosts across the country were Zone A (Princeton), Zone B (Auburn), Zone D (Iowa), and Zone E (Federal Way).
50 divers competed in the 3-meter event, 52 competed in the 1-meter event and 30 competed in the platform event. A preliminary competition was held for each event, with the top 18 divers in each moving on to the finals.
The top 12 divers in the final competitions moved on to the NCAA Championships, which will be held on March 26-29.
Although no Falcons reached this National Championship milestone, all three competed at a very high level and Mayorga qualified for the finals in the platform event.
3-meter
Mayorga and Snyder competed for Bowling Green in the 3-meter event on Monday. Mayorga qualified for the event with her dual meet performance at Akron, while Snyder qualified because of her dual meet performance against Hillsdale College.
1-meter
Mayorga, Snyder, and Long all qualified for the 1-meter event. Mayorga earned it because of her score in the first meet of the season against Canisius, while Snyder and Long qualified in their meet against Hillsdale.
Platform
Mayorga was the only Bowling Green diver to qualify for the platform event. She did so because of her amazing platform performance at the Miami Classic, which also earned her one of her two MAC Diver of the Week Awards this year.
The trio of Mayorga, Snyder, and Long had an incredible season for Bowling Green diving and competed very well in the NCAA Zone Diving Regional.
Mayorga led the way for the Falcons in the competition, earning the best score of any MAC diver in the 3-meter event, while also making history as the first Falcon to reach the finals in the Zone Diving platform event.
Although Bowling Green’s diving season is now over, seven Bowling Green swimmers will compete in the CSCAA National Invitational Championship this Thursday through Saturday.
