BGSU softball (6-15, 1-0 MAC) has won their first conference matchup of the season, a Friday single game against Buffalo in New York, doubling as their first road win as well in an 11-3 final.
BGSU ace Scarlett Anderson played her first dual-threat game of the season. As the designated hitter, Anderson worked a walk, scored and run, and got an RBI as well. Coming in relief for starter Alivia Roth, she pitched 4.1 innings allowing only one run in the sixth.
Buffalo’s starter pitcher was not close to as successful. Genevieve Longsdorf also pitched 4.1 innings but allowed six earned runs (eight total) on six hits and four walks. She was not supported well by the offense, the Bulls’ two best hitters going 0/5 and the rest of the team recording only four hits and three runs.
BG’s offense was stellar getting 11 runs on nine hits, five walks, and four stolen bases. Batting in the three-hole and playing her first game of 2025 at second base, Taylor Behrendt went 3/4 with two RBIs and a stolen base. Right fielder, Peyton Steffes may have had an even better game, 2/3 with two runs, two RBIs and a walk.
Playing only six innings, it marks the first time BG has won their opening game of MAC play since 2021 in a five-inning match against Central Michigan. Not a single member of the Falcon roster or coaching staff was on the team the last time the team kicked off the MAC with a win.
The Falcons have two more games to play against Buffalo, a double-header on Saturday, March 15 starting at 1 p.m.
