BGSU baseball (13-5, 6-0) faced off against the Akron Zips (6-13, 0-6) on Sunday in a 6-4 win for the Falcons.
The Falcons continue an eight-game winning streak, six coming from Mid-American Conference (MAC) play. The winning streak started on March 5 with a 14-4 win over Dayton.
Sophomore catcher/outfielder Garret Wright got the BGSU offense rolling early in the top of the first inning with a triple into right field.
Wright was quickly hit in as junior two-way player DJ Newmansingled up the middle giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead.
The Orange and Brown continued their work in the second inning as junior infielder Sam Seidel worked the count for a walk, stealing second afterwards.
Wright would then single into right field, scoring Seidel and putting BGSU up 2-0.
The Falcons would score another run in the fifth inning, pushing the score to 3-0, before breaking the game open in the sixth.
Seidel singled into center field, followed by a Newman intentional walk.
The Orange and Brown sophomore infielder Brady Birchmeier then stepped into the box, sending a ball over the left field fence for a three-run homer to give the Falcons a 6-0 lead.
Senior right-hand pitcher Landon Willeman took the mound for the Falcons, making it through 6.1innings, allowing two runs on two hits, one walk and four strikeouts.
Akron got on the board in a huge way in the seventh inning, as Charlie Schebler blasted a ball over for a grand slam, cutting the BGSU lead to 6-4.
The Falcons brought in closer Connar Penrod for the final 1.1 innings of the game. Penrod gave up just one hit and struck out three batters, helping BGSU secure the win and his fifth save of the season.
The Falcons will start a six-game home stint, beginning with a battle against Purdue Fort Wayne on Tuesday, with first pitch at 3 p.m.
