BGSU baseball sophomore first baseman Brady Birchmeier has been named Mid-American Conference (MAC) Co-Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday afternoon.
The honor is Birchmeier’s first as a Falcon and the first for a BG player this season after they won seven weekly awards last year. Birchmeier shares this week’s honor with Miami (OH)’s Evan Appelwick.
Birchmeier batted .500 (7-14) in Bowling Green’s weekend sweep over Akron, hitting two doubles, two home runs and driving in nine runs. He has crushed three home runs and driven in 14 runs over the past five games.
The New Lothrop, Michigan, native leads the MAC with 29 runs batted in (RBI). He also ranks fourth in the conference with six home runs and 48 total bases, seventh with 25 hits, ninth with a .676 slugging percentage and 10th with a 1.096 on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS).
Next, Birchmeier and the Falcons will start a six-game homestand by playing two non-conference mid-week games against Purdue Fort Wayne on Tuesday and Dayton on Wednesday, with both games starting at 3 p.m.
