Every summer NHL teams announce the players that each respective team has invited to their development camp. These rosters comprise of a team’s prospects and invited young free agents. These camps allow players to spend a week developing their skills and potentially impress NHL executives for the opportunity to earn a future contract and/or roster spot.
This year, three Falcons have been invited to NHL camps. Senior forward Brody Waters and sophomore defensemen Ty Higgins and Brayden Crampton each received nods to represent BGSU at development camps over the coming week.
Waters will participate in the Dallas Stars’ camp after scoring 15 points across 36 games last year with the Orange and Brown. In his three seasons with the Falcons, Waters has appeared in 106 games and scored 29 goals, 23 assists and 52 career points. This will be Waters’ second career NHL development camp invitation as the Heidelberg, Ontario native participated in the Los Angeles Kings’ camp last summer.
Higgins will be skating with the Washington Capitals during their camp following a freshman campaign that saw the Stratford, Ontario native score 11 points in 20 games. This is not Higgins’ first time receiving an invite of an NHL development camp, previously skating with the Vegas Golden Knights during their 2025 camp and the Pittsburgh Penguins during their 2023 camp.
Crampton will skate in his first career NHL development camp as the Chilliwack, British Columbia native received an invite from the Winnipeg Jets. Crampton scored three goals and 15 assists in 35 games during his freshman season with the Orange and Brown while taking a team-leading 104 shots on goal across the season.
Waters, Crampton, Higgins and the Falcons will kick off their 2026-27 season with a home-and-home series against Michigan on Oct. 2 and 3.
