The Miami RedHawks (13-10, 5-0 in the MAC) softball team travelled to Ann Arbor, MI, to take on the 19th ranked team in the country, the Michigan Wolverines (18-9 overall). This was Miami’s second game of the season against a Big 10 team, as they lost to Ohio State in February. This time they were triumphant, beating the Wolverines, 7-3.
Both teams traded runs in the first inning. However, in the top of the second, Miami’s offense put three runs across. One run came off an RBI single from Adriana Barlow, who also scored when Holly Blaska blasted a home run. Blaska went 2-4 at the plate, continuing her hot streak.
In the top of the fifth, Miami added three more runs to make the game 7-1. Barlow, Maggie Murphy, and Chloe Parks all recorded an RBI in that inning. Michigan would score once in the bottom of the fifth, and then once more in the bottom of the seventh after a rain delay. However, it was too little too late for the Wolverines, and the game ended 7-3.
Senior Courtney Viestra got the start on the mound for Miami. She pitched a complete game, giving up the three runs on six hits. She also struck out seven Wolverines en route to the win.
