The Miami RedHawks softball team (24-12, 15-2 MAC) continue to dominate the MAC, winning their ninth straight game with a shutout of Buffalo (15-16, 6-7 MAC).
Courtney Vierstra got the ball for the start against the Bulls. She pitched a complete game shutout with six strikeouts, while only allowing three hits. The game only lasted six innings due to the run rule being put in effect. The senior continues to impress in the circle for Miami.
Home runs were flying out of Nan Harvey Field in Buffalo with regularity. Maggie Murphy started the party off with a solo homer in the top of the second. In the fourth, Shelby Kunkel and Adriana Barlow both had solo shots as well. Holly Blaska hammered a two-run round-tripper in the top of the fifth. Finally, Allie Cummins hit a two-run shot in the top of the sixth to give Miami nine runs. Buffalo was unable to answer in the bottom of the inning and the game was called due to the run rule.
Miami’s title hopes are still going strong. They look to extend their winning streak with a series against the University of California (24-18) this coming weekend.
