In a statement win against the then-top team in the Mid-American Conference, the Kent State Golden Flashes (11-4 in the MAC) dominated the Toledo Rockets (12-3) 72-59. This win moves Kent State just one game behind the Rockets for second, and just two games behind the now-top team in Ohio (13-2). This win also makes the win streak 7 straight games for the Flashes, who don’t look to be slowing down any time soon.
Kent State was led by Sincere Carry, who had 23 points in the win. Malique Jacobs had 14 points of his own, while also coming down with 6 rebounds. Andrew Garcia and Justyn Hamilton each had 8 boards, with Hamilton also blocking three of the Rockets’ shot attempts. RayJ Dennis led the scoring for Toledo with 21 points.
The Rockets scored a season-low 20 first half points in the game. Kent State’s defense held them all game, although Toledo’s 35.5% shooting from the field didn’t do them any favors. This win makes Kent State 2-0 on the season against Toledo, an impressive record considering how well the Rockets have played. Kent State looks to continue their stretch of excellent play against the top team in the MAC, Ohio on the 18th.
