The Bowling Green softball team came up short in a Wednesday doubleheader against the Western Michigan Broncos.

They lost the first game 7-0 and the second game 10-1.

The Falcons logged six hits in the first game but did not score any runners.

Western Michigan took the lead in the third inning for both games and only allowed two BGSU hits in game two.

Junior Peyton Dolejs led the Falcon offense in game one, going 2-3.

In game two, junior Katie Hutter led the way with a double to the outfield to bring in the only run of the day.

Game one

In the first two innings, the Falcons and Broncos held each other at no runs.

This changed in the top of the third when Alyssa Kramer hit a single and advanced to second off a third base error.

With a runner in scoring position, Bronco Payton Kelly made it to first off an error and advanced to second off another error, allowing Kramer to score.

The Falcons had a strong bottom of the first, having three hits and getting runners in scoring position, but Bowling Green could not score.

In the top of the fourth, Western Michigan added an unearned run to the scoresheet.

WMU’s Cassidy Brendtke started the Broncos’ at-bat off with a double to right field.

This took her to second, but she quickly advanced to third off a sacrifice bunt.

Brendtke made it home shortly after due to a fielding error.

The next inning and a half saw no scoring plays, but both teams had hits and left runners on base.

With a 2-0 score in the fifth, there hadn’t been much scoring action. However, this was going to change.

The Broncos added six answered runs in the fifth frame, leaving the Falcons stifled.

In the bottom of the sixth, Dolejs doubled to left field and later advanced to third. She was eventually left on base and the game moved to the seventh and final inning.

The seventh inning brought one hit and one runner left on base for the Broncos and no hits for the Falcons.

With this, the Broncos took the opening game of this doubleheader.

Game 2

Bowling Green’s Madi Young pitched a strong first two innings, holding the Broncos at two hits and no runs.

With quick 1-2-3 at-bats for the Falcons, they were also scoreless for the first two innings.

However, Western Michigan came out strong at the top of the third.

Going into the fifth inning, the Falcons were down 4-0.

Five innings was all that Bowling Green saw in this game, as the Broncos kept adding runs to hit double digits.

For the Falcons, only freshman Katie Hutter touched home base.

With a 10-1 score, BGSU had two flyouts, cutting the game short.

The Falcons travel to Buffalo for a two-game series with the Bulls, starting on Saturday, April 1 at 1 pm.

The series will conclude on Sunday, April 2 starting at noon.
