Ozzy Osbourne has filed an anti-trust lawsuit against AEG ahead of his farewell tour. The filing is because the company is trying to make Osbourne play at both the London and L.A. venues. This is due to an agreement called the Staples Center Commitment. Under this agreement, it requires the artist to play at the Staples Center in L.A. if they play at the O2 arena in London. This agreement can be seen as a trap for artists who wish to play in both cities because the London venue is one of the only venues that can hold major concerts.
The goal of the 69-year-old rocker’s lawsuit is to abolish the Staples Center Commitment for himself and any other artist who has already signed it. This agreement makes it harder to for level the playing field for where artists chose to perform. While Staples Center is a great venue, some artists would rather travel 10 miles south and play at The Forum in Inglewood for their L.A. tour stop.
Osbourne’s wife and manager Sharon, called the Staples Center Commitment “blackmail”, and will continue to fight for the fairness of competition for artists on a global standpoint.
