Team Sleep
“Team Sleep”
Maverick Records
GRADE: A-
Team Sleep’s debut album is a unique blend of different styles of music. The album combines influences of alternative, metal, and electronic music.
Team Sleep has fashioned a surprisingly interesting album, and in some ways created their very own genre of music.
Lead singer Chino Moreno, who also fronts the Deftones, has just the right amount of anger and feeling in his voice to take this album in the right direction.
Moreno’s vocals are soft, and a nice contrast to the unusual beats and heavy guitar. Most of the songs on the album are very soft and surreal, but with a basis in hard rock.
Team Sleep manages to successfully combine different genres of rock. Usually, when different styles of music are combined, the end result seems awkward and uneven.
Team Sleep takes their music in new direction, and does it with originality.
Although not all of their songs are great, all of them have something to say. Songs like “Princeton Review” and “11/11” showcase Team Sleep’s ability to handle different genres while still breaking new ground.
Many new rock acts feel the need to stay within the confines of a certain genre.
When new bands are able to break free from the mold, and succeed with their music, it is an accomplishment. It is evident that much effort and time was put into Team Sleep’s debut album, and the result is a highly original piece of work.
Team Sleep has something to offer all music fans. Fans of metal, emo, electronica, and alternative can all appreciate the efforts of Team Sleep. Moreno’s soft voice, coupled with the unique beats, help to create a significant accomplishment for Team Sleep.
