Eleven Delta Chi chapters representing Ohio, Michigan, West Virginia and parts of Canada, came together to exchange ideas last weekend in the Union.
The University’s Delta Chi chapter hosted the regional conference which lasted from Friday night until Sunday morning.
The Delta Chi chapter on campus is young in their region they’ve had their charter for less than a year.
“Having the regional conference here reflects highly upon us,” Doug Adams, Delta Chi member, said. “It shows our perseverance and that we could put the conference together, even as a young chapter.”
The conference started with the arrival of other chapters including Ohio State, Kent State, Miami University and others. Members of the Delta Chi chapter on campus were happy with the turnout which included 55 undergraduate students and 15 alumni.
Trent Unterbrink, an alumnus and advisor of the Bowling Green chapter, helped put the conference together.
“In the past three years the focus (of the conference) has been on classical leadership, very lecture intensive,” Unterbrink said. “We wanted more interaction.”
“The conference gave us a great sense of pride because our chapter is just getting started,” Brian Bickley, Delta Chi member, said.
Every year during the conference there are elections for regional positions. This year Unterbrink was elected to be the regent for one of Delta Chi’s nine regions.
“I had been appointed to this position from the summer until now, but it meant a lot to me to be elected,” Unterbrink said. “It is important to me to have their confidence.”
According to Matt Recchiuti, President of the University’s chapter, they are a young chapter and were happy to see that their membership is growing.
The conference could also be used to measure their success compared to other chapters.
“Because we had the conference in our own backyard we really got to cater it to our needs,” Bickley said. “We knew that if we were having a problem, someone else was probably having it in their chapter.”
“We got many compliments from people who attend the conferences every year,” Bickley said. “The Union worked so well in giving us the resources we needed and it made our campus look good.”
“The staff at the Union, including event planning and catering, made sure that we had everything we needed exactly as we requested,” Unterbrink said. “I can’t say enough how thankful we were to them.”
Next year the conference will be held at Ohio State University.
