  • My Favorite Book – Freshwater
If there’s one book that I believe everyone should read once in their life, it’s my favorite book – Freshwater by Akwaeke Emezi. From my course, Queer Literature under Dr. Bill Albertini, I discovered Emezi’s Freshwater (2018). Once more, my course, Creative Writing Thesis Workshop under Professor Amorak Huey, was instructed to present our favorite […]

Bust out the brooms! Falcon Volleyball defeats Ohio to sweep two-game series

After a challenging non-conference slate to open the year, BGSU Volleyball has found its stride in the MAC.

The Bowling Green State Falcons defeated the Ohio Bobcats in four sets to complete the weekend sweep, 25-18, 25-20, 17-25, and 27-25 on Title IX night. With the win, the Falcons has won four straight matches to open the MAC conference season undefeated.

For Ohio ,they were more competitive this time around, but errors haunted the Bobcats once again. The match ended with the Bobcats committing 34 attack errors compared to 17 by the Falcons. Ohio was able to commit less in the third and fourth sets, but the errors killed whatever momentum the Bobcats had, which allowed BGSU to keep them at arm’s length all night.

Despite the loss, Ohio had a pair of leaders that kept the match competitive. Senior Caitlin O’Farrell finished with 17 kills, and sophomore Caroline Clippard added 15 kills of her own. Parker Kwiatkowski led both teams with 30 assists.

Petra Indrova and Katelyn Meyer were honored by being named two of the top 50 athletes in BGSU history, and for Indrova, she may have risen on that list after her performance on Saturday. Ohio struggled to find a gameplan to minimize Indrova’s role, and she was able to take advantage. Indrova led the team with 13 kills and added four aces on top of that. She had plenty of help, however, as Lauryn Hovey had ten kills and Mia Tyler added eight of her own.

Defense was the theme of the game, as the Orange and Brown made Ohio work hard to just get the ball to the other side. The Falcons finished with 13 blocks, with eight of them coming from freshman Jessica Andrews, and Meyer added three blocks of her own. The Walz sisters played great defense as well, as Julia finished with 14 digs and Jaden finished with 11.

Bowling Green is getting hot at the right time, and they will look to keep their win streak going as they travel to play Northern Illinois on Oct. 7th at 7 PM.
