The Ohio House voted to override Gov. Mike DeWine’s veto against House Bill 68, a ban on gender-affirming healthcare for minors and barring transgender athletes from sports, on Wednesday Jan. 10.
With the Ohio House’s decision, the state’s Senate is set to vote two weeks later on Jan. 24, where a 60% approval is needed for passage.
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine vetoed H.B. 68 Dec. 30 after being passed by both the Ohio House and Senate and continues to stand by his decision.
“I continue to believe it is in the best interests of children for these medical decisions to be made by the child’s parents and not by the government,” Gov. DeWine said.
