BGSU students and members of the BG community can utilize the university’s shuttle service to deter the amount of parking citations administered.
Students of Bowling Green pay for the service of a shuttle in their general fees. This service allows for a student to be anywhere on campus much faster than it would take to walk.
The shuttles run through the duration of the school year from Monday to Saturday. However, on Saturday there is only one shuttle, while Monday through Friday has four shuttles with four different routes.
Although open to, the shuttle service is not limited to BGSU students. Currently there is no form of ID required to use the shuttle, so residents of the community are welcome to use the service “as long as they aren’t creating a disturbance or a delay that would hinder the students riding the shuttle,” said Aileen Berry, an employee of Parking Services.
One of the shuttles is able to take users from campus to Meijer for groceries and other necessities that are not found on campus. While each shuttle has a route, Berry said, “they’ll get you as close as they can within route.”
Although parking services aides in public transportation, not everyone is always in agreement with their decisions. Parking citations are handed out to those who refuse to follow the rules of parking lots. Though very few citations are voided, Parking Services does their best to understanding while also staying consistent, “if you’re consistent they don’t mind it if you stick with the rules,” said Berry.
Michael O’Halloran, employee of Parking Services, said, “consistency is its own problem solver.” While rare, both Berry and O’Halloran have confirmed it is possible to receive multiple citations at one time – with the highest they’ve seen being four at once. While this number is high, it is not the highest. Each student is able to receive five citations during the school year; however, when they receive the sixth citation, they will also receive a boot – in hopes to deter them from future violations.
