Toledo emo-pop-punk band Equipment visited Bowling Green State University’s Michael and Sarah Kuhlin Center October 13 to record a live session for this episode of Live & Loud. The band, known for its blend of catchy, raw melodies and reflective lyrics, includes Nick Zande on lead vocals and guitar, Ellie Hart on bass, Jake Pachasa on drums, and Jacob Scott on guitar and vocals.
The group draws inspiration from early 2000s and 2010s rock influences, including blink-182, My Chemical Romance, Death Cab for Cutie, Elliott Smith, The All-American Rejects, and Weezer. Describing their style as “catchy and real,” Equipment delivers songs that resonate with fans of the emo-pop-punk scene, capturing both energetic and introspective tones.
Since the release of their first EP, Equipment has evolved significantly. “I was sorta writing these songs into a scene I didn’t know existed yet,” Zander recalls of the band’s early material. Through lineup changes and musical development, they have built a solid catalog of 40 songs, enjoyed a stable lineup for the past four years, and currently draw an audience of 22,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. The band recently completed a 22-stop U.S. tour as the opening act for Sweetpill and is beginning their co-headlining tour across the U.S. for the end of 2024 and the top of 2025, which includes a multi-day underground music festival in Gainesville, Florida.
In addition to recent performances, Equipment has been promoting new projects, including their music video for “Hot, Young Doctors.”. The music video for the song features footage from their recent tour and captures key moments of their journey. “I feel like the song and the music video are like two separate things,” says Scott of the project, which was filmed over a year and a half. Zander adds, “It feels more like a victory lap.”
Fans tuning into Equipment’s Live & Loud session hear the performance of “Hot, Young Doctors,” as well as their tracks “Minnow” and “Raptured Trax, Pt. 2.”, also available on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify.
