After a weekend of success where BGSU softball (15-25, 7-9 MAC) earned their second MAC series victory of the year against the Western Michigan Broncos (11-28, 5-9 MAC), the Falcons look forward to the series against the Ohio Bobcats (26-12, 9-4 MAC) on Tuesday, April 15 at 1 p.m. with game two of the doubleheader beginning 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
The Falcons sit just outside of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) playoff picture with a 7-9 record that’s seventh best behind Akron, who hold the final playoff spot with their 6-6 record. With seven of their last 10 games coming against opponents in the top three of the MAC, the Falcons have a tough road ahead to end out conference play.
Ohio is undefeated against Bowling Green in the last five games, claiming sweeps in the past two series and outscoring the Falcons 38-9 in that span.
Falcon Forecast
Falcon pitching soared sky-high against the Broncos, earning back-to-back shutouts on Saturday thanks to scoreless outings from freshmen Morgan Beckham and Sydney Marshall.
Beckham saw five scoreless innings earn her a complete game thanks to the mercy rule that ended an 8-0 Falcon won early and finished off the final two innings of a 4-0 game two victory that followed up Marshall’s five scoreless innings in her seventh start of the year.
Junior Mackenzie Krafcik threw six and third innings in Friday’s loss against the Broncos, allowing one earned run on two strikeouts and 91 pitches. The outing was the fifth outing of six or more innings of the season for the Aurora, Ohio native who is having a career year as the ace of a Falcon squad.
In BG’s 8-0 win on Saturday, they scored eight or more runs for the second time in 16 conference games and the sixth time all season.
The Falcons scored eight runs on a team effort thanks to eight of nine Falcons in the lineup earning a hit and three hitting home runs in a four-run bottom of the third.
Senior Scarlet Anderson and junior shortstop Cameron Kaufman hit their first career home runs over the left field fence on Senior Day and Kendall Mathews hit her third home run of the season.
Third baseman Addie Martin and second baseman Hannah Hunt carried the offense in game three of the series, smashing three hits each and scoring all four of the Falcons’ runs en route to a victory that made the Falcons 8-4 at home in 2025.
Ohio Bobcats
Since starting conference play 7-1, OU is 4-4 after coming off a tough home series against Toledo after losing the first game of a Saturday doubleheader in extra innings and getting shut 4-0 in game two.
A tough schedule awaits the Bobcats in their pursuit of their first MAC championship since 2018, with series against the first place Miami (OH) RedHawks, second place Central Michigan Chippewas, and fourth place Ball State Cardinals still awaiting them, they will have their hands full as they end the regular season.
Bobcat pitching has been the highlight of a star-studded roster, with underclass aces Anna Wise and Mikie Lieving first and second in the MAC with 2.19 and 2.39 respectively earned run averages.
Despite a tough outing against the Rockets where she allowed seven earned runs in 5.1 innings, redshirt junior Skipp Miller has thrown three complete games without an earned run and in 95.1 innings, fourth most in the MAC she has accumulated a 3.60 ERA that’s good for ninth best in the conference.
Consistency has been key for a Bobcat offense that boasts all seven of their hitters with more than 100 at-bats hitting .257 or higher, with five hitting over .300.
Sophomore Brenna Farmer has led the Bobcats with a .352 batting average over 125 at-bats.
