  • My Favorite Book – Freshwater
If there’s one book that I believe everyone should read once in their life, it’s my favorite book – Freshwater by Akwaeke Emezi. From my course, Queer Literature under Dr. Bill Albertini, I discovered Emezi’s Freshwater (2018). Once more, my course, Creative Writing Thesis Workshop under Professor Amorak Huey, was instructed to present our favorite […]

Alumni open revived Ziggy’s in place of closed hookah bar

“For Falcons, By Falcons” is the motto that the new owners of Ziggy’s want to spread throughout the Bowling Green community.

When friends and University alumni Joe Kostelnik, Mike Dimas and Scott Nemeth found out that Blo Hookah Bar and Lounge was for sale, they couldn’t pass up the opportunity to invest.

Blo, which was previously known as Ziggy’s, was sold just a few weeks ago. It re-opened as Ziggy’s last Friday.

The three friends reached out to the previous owner of Ziggy’s to ask for his blessing in restoring it back to their favorite bar.

“I can’t even imagine this spot not being Ziggy’s,” Kostelnik said. “We were regulars here.”

The three partners have been working around the clock to restore Ziggy’s back to its old-school feel with a modern flare.

“We’ve been putting a lot of time and effort into getting it to a place that we’re proud of,” Dimas said.

The bar features its original shot wheel, dollar drinks on Tuesdays and crushed ice, while mixed drinks are served in mason jars.

The partners want the bar to be a place where people can come for good drinks, good conversations, and to hang out and have fun.

Although the bar is for patrons 21 and older only, the owners are excited to see a revolving door of new faces as students pass through their years in Bowling Green.

“We want them to be excited for when they turn 21 to have a place to go that they’d never been before,” Dimas said.

The owners are also interested in hosting parties for greek life, sports teams and friends looking to throw birthday parties.

Senior Ross Lindemann was a regular at Ziggy’s during his freshman and sophomore years

of college.

“Ziggy’s was wild,” Lindemann said. “It was definitely the place to be.”

He is eager to see what Ziggy’s is like now that it has reopened.

“I think people have instilled in their brain that Ziggy’s is the spot,” Lindemann said. “I think it’ll stay hyped up.”

The owners are excited to finally be open.

“We want people to understand that this was our bar too,” Kostelnik said. “We loved this bar, and it’s our number one goal to try to get it to be Ziggy’s again.”
