The Bowling Green baseball team (20-30, 13-17 MAC) ended their season by splitting a doubleheader against Toledo (26-29, 14-16 MAC) in the Battle of I-75 at Fifth Third Field on Saturday.

After the postponement of Friday’s game due to weather, the two rivals exploded for a combined 47 runs in 18 innings of baseball.

The Falcons fell to the Rockets in game one, 19-7.

The orange and brown concluded their season with a 16-5 victory over their rival to secure the split.

After the top of the first inning, Tyler Ross’s sacrifice fly and senior Nathan Rose’s three-run home run gave BG an early four-run lead.

Toledo launched two home runs in the home half of the inning to cut the Falcons’ lead to 4-3 after the first frame.

Senior Justin Fugitt scored on a wild pitch in the top of the second to extend BGSU’s lead to two runs.

Toledo answered with a three-run home run in the second, a solo home run plus two more runs in the fourth, and a two-run home run in the fifth inning to give the Rockets an 11-5 lead after five innings.

In the away half of the sixth inning, Fugitt drove in two more Falcons to cut the Toledo lead to 11-7.

However, UT blew the game open in the seventh and eighth innings.

The Rockets hit another home run in the seventh before scoring seven runs in the eighth inning to secure the 12-run victory.

Just like the first game, the Falcons got on the board first in the second game of the doubleheader as senior Kyle Gurney scored on a bases-loaded walk in the top of the first inning.

The Rockets responded with an RBI single to tie the game 1-1 after the first inning.

BG responded with a five-run second inning.

Gurney hit an RBI single before Ross crushed a grand slam over the wall in left-center field to give the Falcons a 6-1 lead.

Toledo scored two runs in the bottom half of the second inning to cut BG’s lead to 6-3.

The Falcons kept their foot on the gas pedal as they scored seven more runs in the third inning.

Fugitt, Ross, and freshman DJ Newman recorded RBI singles while sophomore Nathan Archer blasted a two-run home run off the light post in right field to give the Orange and Brown a 13-4 advantage.

Both teams were scoreless until Gurney delivered an RBI single for BG in the top half of the sixth inning.

Toledo answered with a solo home run in the bottom half of the inning, making it a 14-5 game.

In the ninth inning, Rose hit his 17th double of the season, tying for the sixth most doubles in a single season in BG program history.

Later in the inning, Fugitt delivered an RBI double before junior Anthony Toma drove in Fugitt with an RBI single to secure the 11-run victory for the Falcons.
