Tonight at Howard’s Club H, several area bands are coming together to raise money for the American Red Cross.
Among the bands on the bill are Twist of Nothing, Crazy Eddie, Sugarbuzz, Goiterjelly and The Boo Gang. A minimum $5 donation is being asked for at the door. All the proceeds from the show will be going to the cause. The benefit is running from 7 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.
Twist of Nothing drummer Brian Engelman summed up why the show was taking place. “Just like most of the country, we’ve been glued to our TV sets since 9/11 and we wanted to help,” he said. “It’s tough to help out when you’re in Ohio and you’re not specially trained where you can go to New York and make a difference.”
“We have some of the biggest and best bands in BG together at the same time for the same cause,” Engelman said. “Basically every band that we talked to who could do it wanted to do it. They’re all a bunch of really good guys.”
John “J.D.” DeSmith, manager of Howard’s Club H, is also impressed with how the band line-up came together. “That’s excellent how that came together,” he said. “They draw a lot of people. With that band line-up a lot of people will show.”
DeSmith said that Howard’s was a good choice for the show because of the venue’s size and because of the club’s sound system. He also added that Howard’s has done other benefit shows before, with another disaster relief benefit scheduled at the end of the month.
“They (Howard’s Club H) were very cooperative and we appreciate that,” Engelman said. “Every single dollar we raise goes directly to the Red Cross,” Engelman said. “None of these bands are getting paid.”
“We’re asking for five dollars,” Engelman said. “Which is not bad for five bands.”
