The buzz around campus has been louder than a rock song itself. A representative for Capitol Records confirmed that Everclear has a show scheduled in Bowling Green. The band’s website has the show listed on its offical list of concert dates. The concert industry website Pollstar.com also has the show on its list of Bowling Green events. UAO will be making a formal announcement Friday during Campus Fest. The show is slated for October 6 at Anderson Arena.
UAO will also make a formal announcement during Campus Fest regarding when tickets will go on sale. “They [Everclear] haven’t announced the opening act yet,” Nick Gurich, programming director for UAO, said.
This will mark the second time this year that Everclear has made an appearance in the area. Back in March the band was at UT’s Savage Hall in Toledo along with Lifehouse as part of matchbox twenty’s “Mad Season” tour.
Everclear is currently touring behind the album Songs from an American Movie Vol. 2; Good Time for a Bad Attitude.
The band is best known for their hits, which include “Father of Mine”, “Santa Monica,” their cover of “Brown Eyed Girl,” “I Will Buy you a New Life,” and “A.M. Radio.” The band won the Billboard Award for Modern Rock Artist of the Year in 1998. They were also named “Alternative Artist of the Year” by Billboard’s Rock Airplay Monitor that same year.
According to Gurich, UAO has been working on bringing in the band since the spring. “I think they are going to have a good appeal to college students,” he said.
UAO President Dan Henry said, “I’m very excited. I’m going to be more excited when I see students get excited.”
The concert will be part of the “Rock the Flock” homecoming weekend. “The whole weekend is going to be exciting,” Henry said. Back in the spring UAO brought Run-DMC and the Roots to Anderson Arena. They also brought in former Saturday Night Live cast member Jim Brurer and current Saturday Night Live cast member Tracy Morgan for a stand-up comedy show. Back in the spring of 1999 UAO brought in MTV’s Campus Invasion tour, which featured Bush and Moby.
