One thing that can be said right now is: the early season momentum seems to be gone.
BGSU football dropped their fourth straight game at the Doyt, on Senior Day, to the Eastern Michigan Eagles, 55-24.
The game started off as a decent back and forth between the teams. After a fumble on a punt return by the Eagles, Falcons running back Terion Stewart would score on a four yard run to give the Falcons their only lead of the game.
The momentum would completely shift towards the Eagles in the late second quarter, when David Carter would block a punt and score to extend the lead to 21-10. After that, the Eagles would never look back.
In the second half, quarterback Matt McDonald would throw an opening drive interception to give the Eagles great field position. Three plays later, Eagles quarterback Ben Bryant would fire a 37 yard strike to Gunnar Oakes to put the Falcons in a 21-point hole.
The Falcons would respond later in the third with a one yard touchdown run from Jaison Patterson to cut the lead to 14,. However, efforts would not be enough, as 24 unanswered points from the Eagles would overwhelm the Falcons.
Nick Mosley would find the endzone at the very end of the game from nine yards out to pad the score for the Falcons.
After a great start to the season, coach Scot Loeffler’s team now seems to be moving in the opposite direction. Eight penalties from the Falcons, along with two turnovers, would doom the Falcons.
“We were undisciplined in all three phases of the game and that’s on me,” Loeffler said. “Our program was moving in the right direction but it sure as hell didn’t do it today.”
McDonald would finish 20/35 for 223 yards and one interception. Stewart would finish with eight carries for 57 yards and one touchdown.
Defensively, linebacker Darren Anders would lead the Falcons with 13 tackles, along with a sack.
For the Falcons, they have fallen to 2-6, including 0-4 in conference play. But McDonald knows that his team is ready to bounce back and win next week.
“Very frustrating loss, but we are just going to look at it and learn from this moving forward and come to work Monday ready to go,” McDonald said.
The Falcons will be traveling to Buffalo next Saturday at noon to take on the Buffalo Bulls.
