The BGSU women’s basketball team defeated the Central Michigan Chippewas 101-68 at the Stroh Center on Tuesday.

In the first quarter, BG senior guard Elissa Brett had some foul trouble but was able to turn it around as the game progressed and led the team with 18 points, shooting 46.2% from the field.

Senior forward Alison Day also had a stellar performance with 17 points, shooting 61.5% from the field while Falcon sophomores Jocelyn Tate and Amy Velasco both scored 9 points apiece.

CMU freshman Sydney Harris had a game-high 23 points shooting 47.1% from the field, while Bridget Utberg scored 13 points and Karrington Gordon scored 10 points.

It wasn’t enough to stop the Falcons as they dominated both offensively and defensively throughout the entire game.

The Chippewas almost had a comeback in the second quarter until Day made back-to-back buckets giving BGSU a 22-2 run over the Chippewas. Late in the half, BG guard Morgan Sharps’ 3-pointer expanded the lead to 52-27.

Then, the 3rd quarter happened. Brett hit four consecutive three-pointers in less than 2 minutes, which fired up her team and the Falcons took back the lead at 79-28 to end the 3rd quarter.

BGSU expanded their lead to a game-high 38 points many different times throughout the 4th quarter.

As a team, the Falcons shot 54.2% from the field and rejected any chance for Central Michigan to get a run. Bowling Green was able to lower their turnovers, ending with a 23-6 advantage off turnovers.

Head Coach Robyn Fralick credited the team’s ability to overcome adversity for the dominant 30-point differential.

“Even though in the 1st quarter, they were shooting free throws and we had a lot of fouls early so in the 2nd quarter, we stuck out to get stops and from stops, we were scoring to put together consecutive possessions,” said Fralick.

BGSU will take this win as they travel and play against Akron on Saturday at 2 pm in James A. Rhodes Arena.
