The Bowling Green softball team completed another split at the 2023 UE Softball Invitational II for their third tournament of the season.

They lost to Purdue Fort Wayne 3-2 and won against St. Thomas 5-2.

The first game of the day started at 11:00 a.m. as the Falcons took on the Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons.

Freshman Delaney Davis put the Falcons on the board first as she roped a double in the third inning, scoring sophomore Winnie Reid to give Bowling Green a 1-0 lead.

Next inning, junior Peyton Dolejs hit a double and advanced to third base.

Then, shortstop Hannah Hunt hit a sacrifice fly that allowed Dolejs to cross the plate putting the Falcons in front 2-0.

Falcon junior Sydney Stepp pitched 5 straight scoreless innings. However, the Mastodons scored three earned runs in the sixth to get a 3-2 lead.

Bowling Green senior Hannah Davies entered the circle and closed out the sixth inning, not allowing more runs to cross the plate.

Bowling Green wouldn’t score anymore throughout the contest, and though the game was even in hits, the Mastodons would take the contest 3-2.

Game two of the day for the Falcons was against St. Thomas University.

Bowling Green jumped out to an early lead in the top of the second inning, bringing across three runners to go up 3-0.

STU junior Grace Bennett helped the Tommies climb back into the game after hitting a two-run home run to close the gap to 3-2.

The fourth inning rolled along and the Falcons added some insurance scoring two more runs.

Utility Katie Hutter stole home and junior Sophie Weber hit a double that brought home Davis.

Falcon pitchers Scarlett Anderson and Hannah Davies handled the first six innings of the ball game swiftly before sophomore Madi Young closed the game for her first save of the season.

The Falcons won the game 5-2 over St. Thomas University.

Bowling Green will continue the Invitational on Saturday as they face the Evansville Aces and St. Thomas Tommies.
