The Falcons have parted ways with head coach Michael Huger after eight seasons with the team.

Huger was informed of the decision this morning, according to credible sources. There were two years left remaining on Huger’s contract.

BGSU Athletic Director Derek van der Merwe issued the following statement on the decision to terminate Michael Huger’s contract:

“We are extremely appreciative of Coach Michael Huger’s contributions and commitment to Men’s Basketball at Bowling Green State University over the last eight years. As a former student-athlete of the program, he has brought meaningful and extensive perspective to the head coaching position and has positively impacted the lives of student-athletes. We are deeply grateful for Michael’s service to his alma mater.”

The Falcons finished ninth in the MAC, with a conference record of 5-13 and an overall record of 11-20.

BG went on a nine-game losing streak and won just once in their final eleven games, the longest losing streak since the 1971-1972 season.

Huger went 126-125 overall in his time with the Orange and Brown.

However, in MAC play, he went 64-82.

For four of his seasons, the team finished .500 or above.

The highlight of the Huger era was the 2018-2019 season. The Falcons went 22-12 and 12-6 in MAC play and advanced to the MAC championship in which they lost to Buffalo 87-73.

The Falcons will begin a new era next season. BGSU will launch a national search immediately to find the 18th coach for BG Men’s Basketball.
