The Bowling Green softball team took the trip to western New York to face the University of Buffalo in a three-game series.

The Falcons lost game one to the Bulls 8-4.

Buffalo jumped out ahead first in the bottom of the first inning with the first lead of the game.

However, the Falcons responded quickly.

In the top of the second inning, sophomore Wynnie Reid singled to rightfield scoring junior Makailah Dees and freshman Delaney Davis.

Sara Kelly of the Bulls didn’t let the Falcons hold a lead for long after she hit a two-run home run, grabbing a 3-2 lead.

In the top of the fourth inning, Buffalo added another homer to extend the lead to 4-2.

After the home run, the game went into a rain delay.

The rain cleared up and play resumed in the bottom of the fifth inning where the Bulls scored four more runs, growing the Buffalo lead 8-2.

Junior Maycee Godbolt stepped up to the plate in the sixth inning and smacked a two-run home run, scoring herself and freshman Mackenna Fry cutting the Bulls’ lead to 8-4.

The Falcons were halted at four runs, and the Bulls took game one of the weekend series.

The Falcons were originally slated for a doubleheader but rain caused the second game to be suspended after the first two innings of play at a dead even 0-0 game.

Game two will be resumed as part of a Sunday doubleheader.
