Wood County agencies hold events for Earth Month

Agencies throughout Wood County are hosting events geared toward conservation, education and fun for Earth Month, according to the City of Bowling Green.

The 11th annual Community Earth Day Celebration will be on Saturday, April 22, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The event is free and open to all who want to participate in the celebration.

It will be at the Montessori School of Bowling Green on Sand Ridge Road. With 14 acres of land and access to the Black Swamp Preserve and Slippery Elm Trail, BG said the school “provides the ideal backdrop for this Earth Day Celebration.”

Activities at the celebration include:

  • Planting sunflowers with BGSU
  • Making a solar pizza box oven with the Conneaut K-Kids
  • Taking a walk through nature with the BG Parks & Rec Department
  • Powering a light bulb with the City of BG’s power-generating bicycle
  • Learning about trees with the City’s Arborist
  • Giving the Wood County Park District’s giant Earth Ball a roll

There will also be a bike ride along the Slippery Elm Bike Trail with the BG Bike Safety Commission, starting in the Montessori School parking lot at noon. Riders are required to wear a helmet.
