The Bowling Green baseball team swept the Eastern Michigan Eagles in a doubleheader on Saturday.

The Falcons won 11-9 in game one and 13-8 in game two.

With the win, Bowling Green was able to grab two victories out of three over the weekend.

The teams evened up at one run in the first inning, with freshman DJ Newman getting the first Falcon point.

In the bottom of the second, Bowling Green tacked on four more runs to extend their lead to 5-0.

However, in the third and fourth innings, EMU’s offense was pushing hard, gaining six runs in two innings.

The Falcons were down two runs and were left stifled in the fifth and sixth frames.

That all changed in the seventh as senior Kyle Gurney came home due to sophomore Nathan Archer’s sacrifice fly.

Freshman Sam Seidel and senior Nathan Rose scored soon after, gaining back the lead 8-7.

In the bottom of the eighth, BGSU scored three more insurance runs to make it 11-7.

In the top of the ninth, the Eagles tried to claw back, but only added two runs for a final score of 11-9.

Game two saw the Falcons’ dominant offense come out quickly, with eight runs by the end of the third frame.

In the fourth inning, Eastern Michigan responded with five runs, but Gurney scored yet again to bring the lead to 9-5.

The Eagles saw a lone run in the fifth, but the Falcons clapped back with four more in the next three innings.

Although EMU added two in the ninth, it was not enough as BGSU won 13-8 to finish out the day.

Gurney’s on-base streak extended for both games, with him making a hit in 17 out of his now 18 games.

Senior Tyler Ross’ hitting streak increased as well, with him hitting in five games throughout the season.

The next game for the Falcons will be on April 18, as they head to Rochester, Michigan in their match against the Oakland Golden Grizzlies.
