Falcons overpower Oakland, win 16-4

The Bowling Green baseball team defeated the Oakland Golden Grizzlies 16-4 on Tuesday.

BG started red hot, with an RBI double down from senior Nathan Rose sending fellow senior Tyler Ross home to put BG up 1-0.

Oakland bounced back, tying the game 1-1 at the end of the first inning.

Still tied 1-1 in the fourth inning, senior Justin Fuggitt snapped the tie in half, putting the orange and brown up 3-1 at the top of the frame.

Now up 3-2, Bowling Green was in for an explosive fifth inning, scoring seven runs.

In just the fifth inning, Falcons’ Nathan Archer, Leighton Banjoff, Mason Montgomery, and DJ Newman all recorded RBIs.

BG was up 10-2 after the frame.

BGSU scored even more runs, with freshman Sam Siedel hitting a two-run double to put the Falcons up 12-3 at the top of the ninth inning.

Then, Rose hit an RBI single that sent another two-runners home, followed by sophomore Gavin Ganun also hitting a two-run single.

Ultimately, the Falcons defeated the Golden Grizzlies 16-4.

Bowling Green improves to 14-19 on the year and set a record in walks in a single game, with 15 against Oakland.

BG is now on a three-game winning streak and has recorded 40 runs over a three-game stretch.

The Falcons will look to keep the momentum going as they get ready to start a three-game series against Western Michigan.

The first pitch for the series against the Broncos is set for Friday, at 3:05 p.m, with the Saturday double header starting at 1:05 p.m.
